So you have found that your partner is going to be moving away from your city, or even perhaps another country. Whatever reason is causing you to consider taking a relationship to long distance, there are a few things you need to think about and understand before you make the leap.

There Will Be Fighting

Much like in a regular relationship there will be some things that you don’t both agree on. This can make things extremely difficult when you are hundreds of miles away from each other. After things have levelled out just tell yourself that it’s completely natural to have quarrels once in a while, but you need to be thinking about ways that you can both get over the problems. You’ll both need to meet in the middle and come to some sort of agreement. By working these issues out it will help you get over your next argument more quickly.

You Will Get Lonely

Being on your own can be gut-wrenching. Studies have shown that couples who spend long periods away from each other often feel more lonely than ever. The best medicine is to surround yourself with family members, or find things you like to do to take up your time away from your significant other. It doesn’t mean that you have to be completely alone in your house just because they are not with you. Keep your chin up and always be doing something to take your mind off things.

Jealously Could Ruin The Relationship

Before you decide on a long distance relationship, you should have a good foundation of mutual trust. I cannot stress how important this is. Everybody gets jealous, especially when a previous partner is in contact with your lover. If you know your partner inside and out, there will never be a single doubt in your mind about their loyalty to you. I suggest reading various relationship advice books together to strengthen your trust before you depart. Don’t wait for the problems to occur before you seek advice.

It Can Require A Great Deal of Effort

It has been said many times that a long distance relationship is harder work than a local one. It takes great effort and perseverance for a distance relationship to work. You both need to be in it 100% from the beginning until the end of your time away. Plan on seeing each other on webcam at least once every two days. Organize online dates together. And make sure to chat about how your day went. This goes without saying, but never forget to take an interest in their life, their ambitions, and their future.
